Brighton-based musical collective SoftTop take center stage with their latest indie ballad, ‘Runaway,’ a symphonic and waltzing anthem released via Crafting Room Recordings.
Led by keyboardist/vocalist Miles Goodall and comprising members from renowned Brighton acts like Hutch, Ideal Living, and TINMAN, SoftTop deliver an ambitious single that marries the melodic allure of Matt Maltese with Grizzly Bear’s radiant arrangements. The track, ‘Runaway,’ is part of a larger project inspired by Goodall’s near-death experience in London, translating life and events within a strange, imaginary comatose world. Despite its ambitious concept, ‘Runaway’ is fundamentally a classic break-up song, echoing the pain and honesty of losing a love that felt like home.
“‘Runaway’ is an honest and painful cry out expressing the loss of love when you lose someone who felt “like home” leaving you feeling lost; “a runaway.” Musically, elements of the band’s eclectic influences filter through the track, particularly Andy Shauf, the Beatles, the latest Arctic Monkeys offerings, and Matt Maltese.”
‘Runaway’ is out now on all streaming services.
