Everyone is geared up for the BAFTA Awards 2024. Cinema lovers can’t wait to see who will be the winners this year. The nominations range from Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer to Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things. Actors like Cillian Murphy, Bradley Cooper, Margot Robbie and Emma Stone are also nominated. David Tennant will host the award ceremony.
As we all wait with bated breath for the awards to commence hours later, why not take memory down the lane to one of the most precious BAFTA awards moments? The fairytale-like incident happened with the stellar actress, Meryl Streep. The sweet incident occurred in 2012 when Streep was nominated for her phenomenal performance as Margaret Thatcher in the film The Iron Lady.
Colin Firth announced on stage that Meryl won the award for her performance in The Iron Lady. The actress was overjoyed and overwhelmed as she walked towards the stage; she lost one of her black stilettos on the steps. Meryl walked with one footwear and accepted the award. However, Colin made sure he picked up her shoe, and got down on his knee to help her wear it on her foot. It was a perfect live Cinderella moment, and who better than Meryl to feature in it in real life?
The moment Colin helps Meryl Streep wear her shoe, the audience starts cheering loudly. The actress also looks quite pleased and gives him a gentle kiss. Meryl was quite emotional as she received the award and said in her speech, “Somebody once said the fate of the well-known is to be misunderstood. The ambition of this film was to look at the life of The Iron Lady from inside out and locate something real.”
As per the reports, backstage, Meryl even cracked a joke regarding the missing shoe moment. She joked that Colin’s wife, Livia Firth, “better not stand at the top of the stairs” when she’s there. We hope that something unique like this also happens during BAFTA Awards 2024.
