Robert Downey Jr did a great job portraying the role of Lewis Strauss, one of the main opposing forces in Oppenheimer against Cillian Murphy’s character, J. Robert Oppenheimer. RDJ, during a Q&A session, spoke at length about this Christopher Nolan directorial and got a little sentimental about it. Scroll below for more.
It was one of the most anticipated films of 2023, and despite clashing with Margot Robbie’s Barbie, both movies emerged as winners at the box office. Nolan’s film is sweeping off all the major awards, and now all our eyes are on the Oscars. Will this extraordinary trio win the Academy Awards as well or not? The audiences adore RDJ for playing Iron Man in the MCU for several years, and it became like his second identity. Getting out of that mold was hard for him, and his film Dolittle was ample proof.
Robert Downey Jr needed something more challenging so that people could see his full potential as an actor. He is undoubtedly an excellent actor who earned his first Oscar nomination for his performance in Chaplin early on in his career. He received another Oscar nod for his role in Tropic Thunder. Recently, Cillian Murphy, Christopher Nolan, and RDJ were present at a Q&A, as per Variety, where he showered praises on Murphy and Nolan.
Robert Downey Jr said of his role in Oppenheimer and the opportunity Nolan gave him, “I was at a place in my life in my career where I needed someone to have a vision of what was possible for me that I couldn’t see for myself.” He also revealed that this film came to him out of nowhere and added, “I got the call that I should go over to Chris’ house, which is already kind of exciting.” He also jokingly said that Nolan spied on him through the paintings while reading the screenplay at home.
Further praising his Oppenheimer director, Robert Downey Jr said, “You’re generous in the time that you afford to be able to help people find the scenes if they’re not exactly on point.” The director responded by saying, “I love you, man!” It also surprised the audience and the Iron Man star, and he replied, “Unprecedented! This is a whole new Chris!”
Robert Downey Jr. and Christopher Nolan’s interviews have also been entertaining throughout the film’s promotion and afterward. RDJ unlocked a new version of the otherwise reserved film director, Christopher Nolan.
Robert Downey Jr. and Cillian Murphy led Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan, which is now available on Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and a few other OTT platforms for rent.
