Neon on Thursday released a red-band trailer for Immaculate, the psychological thriller starring Sydney Sweeney that it acquired last month. The distributor has set a March 22, 2024 theatrical release date.
The White Lotus and Euphoria star plays Cecilia, an American nun of devout faith who joins a remote convent in the Italian countryside. Her warm welcome quickly devolves into a nightmare as it becomes clear her new home harbors a sinister secret and unspeakable horrors.
Fellow White Lotus co-star Simona Tabasco is also in the pic written by Andrew Lobel and directed by Michael Mohan; the latter wrote and directed the 2021 Sweeney-starring thriller The Voyeurs.
Alvaro Morte, Benedetta Porcaroli and Dora Romano also star in Immaculate, which Sweeney and White Lotus producer David Bernad developed together and produce with Jonathan Davino of Sweeney’s Fifty-Fifty Films and Teddy Schwarzman and Michael Heimler for Black Bear, which financed the project. Executive producers are Black Bear’s John Friedberg and Christopher Casanova along with Will Greenfield.
Sweeney is coming off of teaming with Glen Powell in the Columbia Pictures rom-com Anyone But You, which recently passed $100 million at the global box office. Up next is Marvel’s Madame Web, where she stars alongside Dakota Johnson in the Spider-Man spinoff that hits theaters on February 14. She also is attached with Julianne Moore and Domhnall Gleeson to Apple Original Films’ Echo Valley penned by Brad Ingelsby and directed by Michael Pearce.
