Caffeine is one of the most popular and widely used drugs on the planet thanks in no small part to the lack of stigma associated with the stimulant. It’s usually pretty harmless, but that may not be the case for people who’ve latched onto a new trend that involves snorting a powdered version.
Statistics show that the majority of people reading this rely on caffeine to make it through their day. 63% of Americans start their morning with a cup of coffee, and a very solid chunk of those people will help themselves to a refill (or three) as the day progresses.
Caffeine is a fairly innocent substance in the grand scheme of things (you’d need to drink around 40 cups of coffee in a short period of time to consume a lethal amount), and the fact that it’s so normalized means no one is really going to judge you for relying on it.
However, that may not end up being the case if you opt for a new approach that’s starting to gain steam courtesy of brands that have started marketing caffeine powder that you can snort to get your fix.
According to The New York Post, a company called Want A Bump? is selling 1-gram vials of the powdery white substance for $14.99 (along with fake bills you can use to snort it) that promises to give users an “immediate surge of clean energy and laser-sharp focus,” which sounds a lot like a decidedly less legal drug that’s consumed in a similar manner.
Another competitor offers a slightly different form of consumption in the form of a nasal spray, but as the outlet notes, doctors are concerned users could be at higher risk of an overdose due to how quickly it’s absorbed by the body while calling attention to the negative impact snorting it could have on the nasal cavity.
Don’t say you weren’t warned.
