Sophie Turner and her ex-husband, Joe Jonas, appear to have resolved custody matters, prompting Turner to request the dismissal of her “child abduction” claim from 2023.
According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, the former lovebirds are urging the judge in their federal case in New York, initially filed by Turner in September, to dismiss the entire action.
Sophie Turner & Joe Jonas Have Made Headway In Co-Parenting Efforts
On Tuesday, January 16, Turner filed a “court order of dismissal without fees,” essentially indicating mutual agreement with her to dismiss the “child abduction” case, primarily based on the custody arrangements settled in United Kingdom courts.
Citing a parenting plan that she and the Jonas Brothers member agreed upon in October, the filing reads:
“Whereas, on October 8, 2023, the parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding and a Parenting Plan, inter alia, relating to all matters concerning the parties’ two minor children, WRJ and DMJ.”
The yet-to-be-signed document claims that since both parties indicated their consent through their lawyers’ signatures, the case should be dismissed “with prejudice, and without attorneys’ fees, expenses, costs and/or disbursements awarded to either party.”
By asking for the case to be thrown out with prejudice, Turner has lost the right to reclaim the same claim again in the court where it was originally filed.
Even though an official judicial approval is pending, the issue is practically resolved — a significant development given the initial drama when Turner first sought court action under child abduction law.
When she invoked the statute last year, the mother of two alleged that Jonas was withholding their children’s passports and preventing them from traveling to see her. The move soon escalated the issue to a federal level, catching the attention of the U.S. authorities.
Additionally, Turner asserted that, as a family, they had decided England would be their permanent home. However, due to the “Leave Before You Love Me” hitmaker reportedly keeping the kids in New York amid their recent divorce filing, she claimed his actions violated international child abduction laws.
Since then, the ex-couple have found common ground, temporarily resolving custody arrangements amid their ongoing divorce.
