Daft Punk‘s Thomas Bangalter has been confirmed as the composer of Daaaaaali!, an upcoming French comedy film about the life of the iconic surrealist artist Salvador Dalí.
The film, which premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival, is scheduled to release on February 7th, 2024. Bangalter’s soundtrack is available to pre-order on vinyl by way of Ed Banger Records, who is set to release it on their label.
“Let’s start 2024 with something very special!” the label wrote on Instagram. “Thrilled to welcome Thomas Bangalter on Ed Banger records for the release of the original soundtrack of Daaaaaali!.”
Directed by Quentin Dupieux, who moonlights as the renowned electronic music producer Mr. Oizo, Daaaaaali! marries absurdist themes and comedy with several actors depicting Dalí. The movie follows a French journalist who meets the artist while working on a documentary, which fails to take off.
Bangalter and Dupieux are said to be longtime friends. The former even made a brief unmasked appearance in a scene in Reality, a 2014 film directed by latter.
Bangalter’s most recent solo musical endeavor was a classical album called Mythologies, his first full-length project in the wake of Daft Punk’s 2021 split. You can listen to that album below.
