If you were looking for a Christmas cracker to get you in the festive spirit, look no further than The Darkness’ performance of ‘Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End)’ from the BBC’s Maida Vale Studios.
The performance was equipped with a 12-strong choir too, to give added vocal power to the track that was released some 20 years ago.
Frontman Justin Hawkins even had a red sequined guitar to fit the Christmas vibe.
Have a watch of the performance below.
‘Christmas Time (Don’t Let the Bells End)’ was originally released as a single in 2003, eventually finishing runners-up in the race for the Christmas Number 1 – beaten only by Michael Andrews and Gary Jules’ ‘Mad World’.
The track was later added to an expanded edition of the band’s much-loved ‘Permission to Land’ debut album, which in turn recently received a 20th anniversary reissue and accompanying tour.
Rock Sound recently featured the album in our ‘Album Story’ feature, with members Justin and Dan Hawkins diving into the making of the record, and the chart-topping, 4 x certified Platinum success it led to.
