The Spinners were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2023 at tonight’s ceremony in Cleveland. New Edition paid tribute with a performance at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, performing “I’ll Be Around,” “Could It Be I’m Falling in Love,” and “The Rubberband Man” in matching outfits. The performance also served as a tribute to Soul Train host and creator Don Cornelius. Cornelius was honored this year with the Ahmet Ertegun Award. Watch clips below.
The Spinners and Cornelius’ fellow inductees were Kate Bush, Missy Elliott, Rage Against the Machine, Sheryl Crow, George Michael, and Willie Nelson. In addition, hip-hop legend DJ Kool Herc and guitarist Link Wray were the recipients of this year’s Musical Influence Awards, and Chaka Khan, Al Kooper, and Elton John’s songwriter Bernie Taupin received Musical Excellence Awards.
