On Friday, July 28, actress Nancy Lee Grahn of “General Hospital” hosted a fan event at Acapulco Restaurant in Glendale, California, where she was joined by an intimate group of fans.
She is known for playing the role of Alexis Davis on the ABC soap opera “General Hospital,” a character that she has played for over 27 years, and somebody who is still relevant on the show.
Grahn is also known for her portrayal of Julia Wainwright Capwell on the defunct daytime drama “Santa Barbara,” which spanned from the late ’80s to the early ’90s.
A two-time Emmy award-winning actress, Grahn shared some behind the scenes stories on “General Hospital,” her favorite storylines over the years, and she expressed her solidarity for the SAG strike and the need for it to be done, especially during this digital age when technology, social media, and artificial intelligence (AI) are so prevalent.
Fortunately, soap actors are under a different contract (Netcode contract), so they are still in the studio filming new episodes for fans, and episodes are being written by new scab writers.
She revealed how much she loves working with veteran actress Jane Elliot, who is back on the show wreaking havoc as Tracy Quartermaine.
There was Mexican food (featuring an enchilada bar and desserts), and she participated in a question and answer (Q &A) session with the fans, and subsequently signed autographs and posed for photos. They also raffled off some items that included masks, autographs, and CDs.
Nancy Lee Grahn acknowledged that she has no plans to retire anytime soon, if ever. For Grahn, acting is her calling, and something that she could not picture herself living without.
Kate Grahn’s musical set
Her daughter, Kate Grahn, served as her surprise musical guest. Kate began her set with “Untangling,” where she accompanied herself on acoustic guitar, which featured her rich, crisp vocals, where the listener could recall Jewel meets Brandi Carlile. Kate noted that this tune is about “growing up with OCD and anxiety.”
After accidentally breaking a guitar string, Kate continued with a controlled and resonant performance of the melancholic ballad “It’s Not Even You I’m Crying Over,” which was well-received.
The Verdict
Overall, Nancy Lee Grahn and Kate Grahn’s fan event at Acapulco Restaurant was pleasant and engaging. The dedicated fans had a great time feasting on Mexican food and they enjoyed being in a room with Nancy.
