Singer Kesha is finding peace following the release of her fifth album Gag Order.
The 36-year-old singer is “happier than ever” preparing for her upcoming domestic tour, which kicks off in October. Although the tour is still going to have glitter, the “Eat The Acid” singer admitted that it was difficult balancing her well-known pop hits and some of her newer, more vulnerable, songs.
Kesha Says Her Gag Order Tour Will Mix ‘Extreme Joy And Celebration’ With ‘Raw Vulnerability’
The “Only Love Can Save Us Now” singer said that she decided to “strip everything back” for her new album and “really bare my soul” in her new songs. “It’s a terrifying action to know that you’re going to produce something for public consumption that’s going to be the most vulnerable version of yourself,” she said in an interview with People magazine. “But I made that commitment to myself, and I think the show will echo what the album does and have moments of extreme joy and celebration, counterbalanced with moments of extreme, raw vulnerability.”
Although there was a lot that Kesha wanted to change for this tour, she admitted, “I know my fans are familiar with certain songs, and this is a celebration for all of my fans.” Although she says that she really only thinks about herself when she’s writing her song, once she “give[s] it away,” it “becomes about the fans.
The pop star named some of her hit singles like “Tik Tok” and “Die Young” as songs that fans can expect to hear on her tour. “I’m sure those memories are associated with something slightly mischievous or borderline stupid, and I want to give everyone that moment in the show,” she said. “I have new memories to make with not only Gag Order, but [2020’s] High Road because I never got to fully tour that album. So, there are a lot of new songs that I’m so excited to create new memories around.”
Kesha Says Her New Album Gives Fans ‘The Complete View Of Who I Am’
The “Cannibal” singer went on to say that she’s next been more excited to tour for Gag Order, emphasizing that the album gives fans “the complete view of who I am.” Kesha went on to say, “I really have this feeling of peace, and I feel complete. I know Gag Order is a more emotional journey, perhaps, than some of my other albums, but I think as a whole body of work, I feel so satisfied with what people can see as me talking about who I am. I
“I’m so excited that I’m going into this tour so focused, happier than ever, and I can’t wait to experience this tour with my fans,” she added, saying that touring gives her life “a purpose.” She went on to say, “I just want everyone to know I’m going to be giving you every ounce of what’s inside of me, and I feel like a grown-a**, complete woman. This show’s going to be the best show I’ve ever put on in my life.”
That being said, there are some songs that Kesha won’t perform that fans probably adore. The “Blah Blah Blah” singer won’t reveal which songs are her least favorites because she is afraid of how it might change her fans’ reaction to them. “I don’t want to tell my fans that because if it’s their number-one most favorite song, I don’t want to kill the vibe,” she said. “I also am open to, on this tour, playing some of the songs that are maybe not my favorites and creating new memories around them.”
One song that she said might be “emotionally difficult” to perform is “Eat The Acid,” which is the second track on Gag Order. She called the song “the catalyst” for the album, revealing that she created this song for the album first. She called the song “the sound of a very scary, confusing, spiritual awakening.”
“Every time I sing that song, it’s charged with all these feelings of fear, anger, and hopelessness. But then it shifts into hope and believing in something outside of yourself,” she added. “Every time I sing that, it is a really intense experience.”
