Arca made a surprise appearance at Beyoncé’s Barcelona concert tonight (June 8), where she opened the show with a DJ set. The performance took place at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, where Arca danced and commanded the turntables, as you can see in videos posted to social media by audience members.
On Instagram, Arca wrote, “thank you @beyonce for the incredibly uplifting show and for having me be a part of the renaissance tour ❤️🔥♾️ thank you @amakadsi for your support and care, thank you @cadwallader & @muglerofficial for kindly being up for dressing me for my set yesterday!” She added, “it was sooo much fun!”
The Barcelona show is Beyoncé’s sole stop in Spain during her Renaissance World Tour, which runs through late September. Last month, Beyoncé brought her daughter Blue Ivy onstage in Paris to perform some synchronized moves with backup dancers. Blue Ivy also appeared onstage at tonight’s show, working some choreography with Beyoncé’s crimson-clad dancers.
In mid-May, fans pointed out that Arca appeared briefly in the visuals for one of Beyoncé’s tour stops, posing in a pink jacket on a massive screen projection. (A prominent Arca collaborator, Frederik Heyman, has also worked on the Renaissance World Tour.) Elsewhere on the visually tantalizing Renaissance Tour, Beyoncé has mounted a mirrored tank, flown in on a glittering horse, and danced in several custom designer looks every night.
Beyoncé returned with Renaissance last July—roughly six years after dropping her pivotal LP Lemonade. Renaissance quickly shot to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, marking her seventh record to reach the top spot—she also became the first female artist to have that many solo albums in the peak position.
She continued to break records during Grammy season, snatching trophies for Best Dance/Electronic Recording, Best Traditional R&B Performance, Best R&B Song, and Best Dance/Electronic Music Album. With those wins under her belt, Beyoncé is now the most decorated artist in Grammys history.
