I was depressed. I was sad. My diet was coffee. So people kept saying, ‘You look amazing. Divorce agrees with you,’ And I was like, I don’t feel good. I have no energy.” After seeing a doctor, Longoria learned that her vitamins were really low, and since then she has made sure to keep them up. “It was like all these things were physically wrong with my body, so I had to saturate with vitamins and kind of get back on this track.”

While Longoria and her family are not vegan or plant-based, she still likes to use some of their foods in her cooking and into her diet. Longoria tells Prevention that her childhood helped shape her interest in plant-based food. “I grew up on a ranch where we ate what was on the land—when it was squash season, we ate squash for three months. It gave me such an appreciation for where food comes from: It comes from the ground. Beans are a big source of protein for us. I love making portobello tacos and jackfruit tacos, and cauliflower fried rice.”
