Earlier this week, Marvel Studios released the first trailer for The Marvels, the upcoming sequel to 2019’s Brie Larson-starring The Marvels.
While the trailer — as most MCU teasers do these days — has elicited a variety of reactions, one element of it seems to be approved by everyone, as a single shot of Larson as Danvers has been going viral in recent days.
Larson’s superhero physique isn’t just for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the Academy Award winner for Best Actress is also starring as Tess in Fast X, which hits theaters on May 19.
Here is the official synopsis for The Marvels, via Marvel Studios:
In The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as “The Marvels.”
Prior to taking the dive into the MCU and franchise filmmaking, Larson was best known for her roles in projects such as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, 21 Jump Street, Don Jon, Short Term 12, The Spectacular Now, The Gambler, Trainwreck, and her Oscar-winning turn in 2015’s Room.
The Marvels, the 33rd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, also stars Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Samuel L. Jackson, Zawe Ashton, and Park Seo-joon alongside Larson’s Carol Danvers. The film, which will hit theaters in the United States on Friday, November 10, is directed by Nia DaCosta, who has previously helmed the films Little Woods (2018) and Candyman (2021).
Captain Marvel is one of three Marvel Cinematic Universe films that will released this year. Back in February, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hit theaters and kicked off the franchise’s “Phase 5.” Then, in May, new DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn will wrap up his Guardians trilogy with Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3. The Disney+ series Secret Invasion is also set to release in August.
