The synopsis is: In this true story of faith and survival, “On a Wing and a Prayer” follows passenger Doug White’s (Dennis Quaid) harrowing journey to safely land a plane, and save his entire family from insurmountable danger, after their pilot dies unexpectedly mid-flight.
The movie was written by Brian Egeston, and it was directed by Sean McNamara, who was able to capture the essence and the mood of how the passengers were feeling on that plane. The tension is palpable in this film, and it does get a little preachy
Dennis Quaid delivers a dynamic performance as Doug White while Jesse Metcalfe is a true force as Kari Sorenson, a real-life hero who helps Doug White in his most vulnerable moments. Heather Graham is the voice of reason as Terri White, as well as Doug’s pillar of comfort throughout this ordeal.
The film starts off a little shaky in the beginning, but it builds up to a powerful and heartwarming story that will make viewers want to cry for joy in the end. It encompasses elements of drama, mystery, action, family, and suspense.
The Verdict
“On a Wing and a Prayer” is an important story about survival that needed to be told. The screenplay may be cynical at times, but it will certainly strike a chord with viewers on an emotional level. Viewers should fasten their seatbelts since Sean McNamara is going to take them on a bumpy ride. There is a rawness and an authenticity to this project. “On a Wing and a Prayer” garners a B+ rating.
