Emrata isn’t obsessed with exercise but tries to keep moving with workouts she actually enjoys doing.”I don’t have a trainer, and I don’t really go to the gym. I go on long walks and hikes with my girlfriends. That’s about it. I’m just not a crazy fitness person. I’m definitely an outlier in the industry,” she told The New York Times. “And doing yoga a couple of times a week is a really big part of my regimen.”
Emily is all about authenticity. “I think the biggest obstacle of my career has been transitioning and doing things that people didn’t really expect,” she explained Harper’s Bazaar. “But I think you just have to forge ahead and do what you’re going to do and be who you are.”
For Emily, sleep is self-care, and to get the best z’s she might do a night time workout. “For me, the way I sleep afterwards is one of the main reasons to work out. I am always on my phone working and I think that’s affected my sleep. I’m also really light-sensitive. When I work out, it’s better than taking a melatonin. Because my body has worked hard, my brain finally rests and I think that is so valuable in this day and age — not to sound like an old geezer, but truly I feel that way,” she told InStyle. Another way she unwinds? Baths, regularly sharing photos of her soaks on Instagram.
If there is one thing to observe from all the paparazzi pictures of Emily, it is that she spends a lot of time walking around New York City with her Husky mix and son, Sebastian. “I still can’t believe that he went from 13 lbs at 8 weeks old to approx 80 lbs in one quick year,” Emily wrote, commemorating her pooch on his birthday in 2020. “He’s still the snuggliest though! He makes us the happiest and I’m going to take this opportunity to post a sh*t ton of pics of him ’cause you know what? We all could use some puppy pics right about now. Hbd Colombo ILYSM.”
Emily appreciates the accountability required with group fitness. “I’m one of those people who, if I go to the gym by myself, there’s a 50/50 chance of me actually working out and really pushing myself, so the class environment works really, really well for me,” Emily told InStyle. “I am also someone who, even in a class, will get chatty and [distracted]. I think that’s the great thing about STRONG — the music keeps me really focused and in the zone,” she continues. “You just feel like you’re, you know, Superwoman really pushing herself. You end up working harder and it’s a better, more intense workout, without even noticing.”
Emily is a big proponent of therapy. On a recent episode of her “High Low” podcast she revealed she was working on herself with the help of a mental health expert. “I’ve been in therapy for quite a long time,” she said. “For me, it was really in therapy where I learned to be independent and get to the root of my fear of abandonment.”
