Doja Cat has canceled her summer festival dates, including her tour with The Weeknd. The announcement follows the news that she had routine surgery on her tonsils and needed recovery time.

After detailing her medical ordeal on Twitter, Doja Cat announced that her recovery time would interfere with her planned tour with The Weeknd and her festival dates this summer.

“Hi guys. I wanted you to hear it from me first,” her message began. “Unfortunately I have to have surgery on my tonsils asap. The surgery is routine but the recovery is going to take awhile due to swelling. That means I have to cancel my festival run this summer as well as The Weeknd tour. I feel horrible about this but can’t wait for this to heal and get back to making music and create an experience for y’all.”

Doja tweeted that her tonsils had become infected before the 2022 Billboard Music Awards and that she had been taking antibiotics. She warned that some “bad news” might be on the way.

She tweeted, “Dr. just had to cut into my left tonsil. I had an abscess in it. My whole throat is fucked so I might have some bad news for y’all coming soon.”

“I was taking fucking antibiotics but forgot that I was taking them and then I drank wine and was vaping all day long,” she explained on Thursday. “Then I started getting a nasty ass growth on my tonsil so they had to do surgery on it today.”

The Weeknd announced in March that Doja Cat would be joining his After Hours Til Dawn tour, which starts on July 8 in Toronto and runs until September 2 in Los Angeles. Doja’s other planned appearances featured a host of summer music festivals, including a May 21 set at the Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and a June 22 show at the Glastonbury Festival in the UK.

Doja was the top female finalist at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards with 14 nominations. Voted Top R&B Artist and Top female R&B Artist, her album Planet Her won Top R&B album. With SZA, she also won the top viral song for “Kiss Me More.”
